Wellington City Ambassadors

Each cruise season a team of passionate Wellingtonians welcome thousands of cruise passengers to the ‘coolest little cruise capital in the world’ and they are known as the Wellington City Ambassadors.

city ambassadors
Ready to greet the passengers

This team of volunteers are positioned at key locations throughout the city to provide information, directions and opinions to ensure passengers are making the most of their short day in Wellington. The upcoming 2016/17 season will see an estimated 90 ships visit the city and for this reason we need more ambassadors to join the team!

Our mission is to provide a friendly and informative welcome to all visitors to Wellington

Do you love Wellington? Would you like to welcome thousands of people that flock off cruise ships into our beautiful little capital over summer? Do you have a love for the coffee culture, music and movie making that Wellington is world famous for?

Become a Wellington City Ambassador!

What we require from you, you may ask?

  • Shifts are a maximum of four hours each and are based at different locations throughout the city: CentrePort, Cable Car Lane, Botanic Gardens Entrance, Brandon Street, Wakefield Street and the Wellington i-SITE.
  • Minimum requirement of committing to eight shifts to participate in the programme. Average number of shifts with current WCA team is 10 over the season.

What we will provide you…

  • Rosters are managed by the Cruise Operations Coordinator – initial individual rosters sent in September with ongoing adjustments on a daily basis
  • Some uniform items will be provided such as a name badge, waterproof jacket, t-shirt and cap which are yours to keep! However, you will need to provide your own tidy trousers and comfortable footwear (suitable for long periods of standing)
  • A one-on-one interview on the purpose of your role and our expectations
  • Tourism training and resources provided – visitor guides, attractions and Wellington tour information
  • Three formal gatherings hosted at different Wellington locations
  • All ‘first day’ WCA’s are met at the start of their shift by i-SITE team member to ensure they are comfortable in their work environment and role
