Coming to New Zealand for Rugby World Cup 2011?
Wellington is the ideal base for Rugby World Cup 2011 visitors. As well as hosting five pool matches and two quarter finals, Wellington is at the centre of the country - meaning you’ll be perfectly positioned to explore New Zealand’s ‘stadium of four million’.
The Wairarapa’s boutique wine village of Martinborough is just a short drive away, and you could be tasting Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc after a three hour cruise through the stunning Wellington Harbour and Marlborough Sounds. Nelson, which is hosting two pool matches, is also just a 25 minute flight away!
Of course it’s not like you’ll want to leave the best little capital in the world. Wellington has a great Rugby World Cup 2011 draw and is renowned for putting on a good party - our NZI Sevens in February is a major highlight on the IRB events calendar. The Wellington Regional Stadium is walking distance from the city centre, which makes for a great night out when matches are on. With more bars, cafes and restaurants per capita than New York, Wellington is the second best place to watch out-of-town fixtures too (the best being at the actual match of course) and we’ll keep you posted here about what Wellington has in store for showcasing those matches.
