Wellington’s industry sectors

Wellington is a smart, creative and knowledge-intensive capital. From the government hub to gaming gurus, screen legends to our scientific and technical talent – we’re a diverse city where anything is possible.

High value manufacturing

High value manufacturing is making a major contribution to the region’s export earnings in areas such as communications equipment, engineering components, commercial furniture and biomedical.

Five Wellington region manufacturers; 4RF, Fraser Engineering, Pertronic Industries, Wedgelock and Windsor Engineering, are listed in the TIN100 for 2013.

Design-led companies with a commitment to R&D have become world class producers in niche areas. Examples include Fraser Engineering’s emergency vehicles and Formway’s ergonomic seating. Other high value manufacturing companies in the Wellington region are Racetech, Vega Industries, Resene, Metco and Leda Extrusions.
