Callaghan Innovation

Callaghan Innovation was set up to help businesses build innovation capabilities that contribute to the broader economy. Based in Wellington, they have a team of approximately 400 researchers, scientists, engineers, technologists, business people, investment managers and account managers working across the country.

Crowd-sourcing

PledgeMe is New Zealand’s first crowd-sourcing platform which launched in 2012. PledgeMe crowd-funded itself, raising more than $100,000 in less than 24 hours, and has helped fund over 700 successful projects.

One of those is Wellington-based beer brewers Yeastie Boys, formed in 2008. They started a crowd-funding campaign in January 2015 to raise $500,000 for expanding their operations and brewing in the UK. Their campaign was a massive success with their goal being reached in just thirty minutes, a one of the quickest successful crowd-funding campaigns in the world.
