Handel Messiah

This year, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) are delighted to welcome back the Australian broadcaster and Handel scholar Graham Abbott to lead a historically informed performance of this festive oratorio. Having conducted the work more than 70 times, Abbott’s obsession with Handel is well documented and he brings fresh insights into every performance.

The stunning soprano, Madeleine Pierard, returns to sing some of Handel’s most beautiful arias in her third Messiah with the NZSO. Joining her this year is the inviting countertenor of Christopher Field, the beautiful tenor of Henry Choo and the rich bass of James Clayton.

Universally popular since its first performance in Dublin in 1742, it has always been the wondrous choruses that have endeared this music to new generations. The critically acclaimed early music vocal ensemble The Tudor Consort joins the NZSO in what will be a brilliant celebration of choral delights.

Concert duration: Approx. 2 hr 20 min
