India’s best-loved festival, Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and the renewal of life.

To celebrate, families light small oil lamps (diyas) around the home and set off fireworks. Now you too can enjoy a taste of authentic Indian culture at Wellington's 15th Diwali Festival of Lights.

Bring along the whole family to sample the colours, sounds, tastes and spicy aromas of India.

Highlights of the festival - thanks to the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations - include performance by Kathak dancer and Assamese film star Meghranjani Mehdi ("Lakhimi", "Abhimani Mon', "Tumi Dusokut Kajol Lole"), fun for kids with Rajasthani puppeteers, plus demonstrations by Gond artist Venkat Shyam and paper cutter Parth Kathekar.

There will also be lots of delicious food and craft stalls, traditional and contemporary dance and music, and beautiful displays.

The Diwali Festival is organised by Wellington City Council in partnership with Asia New Zealand Foundation.

Gold coin entry would be appreciated.
