Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve

The Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society has been working at the Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve to restore the wetland and to improve the habitat for wading birds.

Since 1984, the Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society has been working at the Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve to restore the wetland and to improve the habitat for wading birds.

An extensive replanting programme is underway; paths and boardwalks have been built and hides have been placed in strategic locations for observing birdlife.

An Information Centre Cottage, electric barbecue, picnic tables and a plant nursery are on site. The Reserve is situated in Pauatahanui Village (off SH58), 25 minutes drive from downtown Wellington.

For larger groups, a booking is preferred to enable a member of the Reserve Committee to open the Cottage and displays.
