The Supreme Court is the highest court in New Zealand. Established in 2004, it replaced the Privy Council in London as New Zealand's final court of appeal. It recognises New Zealand as an independent nation with its own history and traditions.

To acknowledge the importance of this new court an iconic building was constructed, inspired by New Zealand's unique natural heritage. The building shares the site with the Old High Court building that has been restored to its original ornate state when it opened in 1881.

Tours of the Supreme Court building include the historic Old High Court building. The tours cover the history of the land, the history of the Old High Court building and its restoration, the construction of the Supreme Court building, and the function of the Supreme Court.

Tours can be booked on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take approximately one hour. They are open to individuals and groups and need to be booked in advance. To request a tour email tours@justice.govt.nz.
