Home to over 500 animals, from the amazing insects and invertebrates of Hero HQ, to the only bears in New Zealand - the gorgeous ASB Malayan Sun Bears, as well as lions, tigers, giraffes, Tasmanian Devils, and many more.

A trip to the Zoo is a great day out. Read on to find out what else they offer to make your visit even more special.

Zoo Crew

Join the Zoo Crew and visit the Zoo as often as you want for a whole year.

You’ll also be the first to know about special offers, new arrivals, and get exclusive invites, as well as lots of other discounts and benefits.

Close Encounters

Impress your friends by telling them how you came face to face with, and hand-fed, a lion; got up close with a cheetah; stepped into the role of giraffe trainer; or make them jealous with pictures of you hanging out with Red Pandas, Lemurs or Meerkats.

Talk to the keepers, feed the animals, and find out all about how Wellington Zoo cares for their animals.

It’s an unforgettable experience and 10% of the proceeds from your encounter will go to conservation projects supported by the zoo.

Sleepovers

Spend the night with Wellington Zoo – and you’re in for a wild time.

Check out the zoo after hours and see what the animals get up to after the visitors head home. Bed down in either The Archibald, looking over Monkey Island, or in the Living Room with some of cutest creatures.

Just $40 per person for groups of up to 20. Call Wellington Zoo on 04 389 3692 to book your overnight adventure.

School Holiday Programmes

Wellington Zoo will make sure your little monkeys don’t get bored during the school holidays.

Four times a year, they run a school holiday programme for kids aged 5-12 years old. Every day is different – go behind-the-scenes and find out how the Zoo feeds their animals, make up games for the animals, or find out what it's like to be a zoo vet.

Check out Wellington Zoo's website for the schedule and to book.

The Nest Te Kōhanga

Even being a Lion doesn’t get you out of a trip to the doctor now and then.

Visit Wellington Zoo's state-of-the-art animal hospital to see their vet team in action, looking after their animals, as well as native animals from around Wellington, and New Zealand.

The purpose-built centre includes a viewing facility into each of the hospitals main surgical rooms so you can see real-life procedures up close, at least twice a day - at 11.15 and 4pm.

Ask questions of the team while they work, and learn more about how Wellington Zoo keeps their animals in tip-top health.

Conservation & Sustainability

Wellington Zoo recently became the first carboNZero certified Zoo in the world – a testament to how passionate they are about looking after the planet.

Conservation is at the heart of everything they do. Check out the Conservation Corner next time you visit, to see how all of Wellington Zoo's staff support conservation.
