Put a spring in your step!

Sunny walks along a wind-swept waterfront.

Fully-populated beanbags outside St John’s.

Tulips galore at the Botanical Gardens.

All sure signs to any Wellingtonian that spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner.

So whilst the merino is still sitting pretty and the layers are still a wise choice for those changeable-weather days, the practical, winter-proof footwear can now be retired to the back of your closet. And while it’s not quite ‘jandals-everyday’ weather yet, you might be in need of a stylish spring shoe to lift your spirits and, quite literally, put a spring in your step.

So, without further ado, and in honour of the arrival of spring, I present to you three of Wellington’s most stylish shoe emporiums…

Shoezies

Sitting proudly on the corner of Wakefield and Tory, is Shoezies. It’s a calm, light and airy shop which proudly presents a select collection of boutique shoes from Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Holland. Their aim is to gift your feet with something special, as opposed to a shoe which just does a job.

Shoezies began its life in Christchurch, but after the earthquakes, they decided to make Wellington their home. Here they have made the feet of many Wellingtonians just a little more stylish.

Most of the shoes are handmade by families who have developed their craft over generations. ‘Ink’, for example, is a premium boutique Italian shoe exclusive to Shoezies. They have been making shoes since 1905 and Ted, the owner of Shoezies says, ‘their super craftmanship, unique designs and the exquisite and rare leathers make them the real Italian thing and we are very proud to stock them’.

So if you appreciate well-thought out designs, artistic craftmanship, beautiful leathers and the comfort that comes from a really well-made spring shoe, be sure to head to Shoezies.

Mischief Shoes

In the heart of Wellington’s shopping scene at the Old Bank end of Lambton Quay, is Mischief Shoes.

WOW might be over for another year, but the colour, design and artistic inspiration it leaves behind is definitely felt here. Metallics, bright colours and spring pastels will make you feel all brand new. ‘Life in colour’ is their theme for spring and summer- what could be more uplifting?

They also stock a range of men's shoes for casual and formal occasions, so the fellar in your life can look as stylish as you will in your patterned heel. Mischief have been on the Wellington shoe scene since 1989, and Don, the owner, is one of our city’s most passionate shoe sellers, 'At Mischief, we strive to provide footwear with a casual sense of style, showing styles and colours not seen elsewhere, and genuine value. A good shoe should take you to good places’. Amen to that Don!

Gubbs

Since way back in 1946, Gubbs have been ensuring that Wellington’s feet are in good hands. Even mini Wellingtonians are catered for here, with an extensive, high quality kids’ line which will ensure all their little piggies are ‘weeeeee’-ing all the way around Wellington this spring. Their gumboots will also ensure that each puddle left over from those spring showers, is soggy sock free and full of fun.

Lots of colour and many styles for all occasions will have every spring-time scenario covered and, as all generations of women are catered for here, Gubbs is a family outing in itself. Their toy box and gorgeous range of dress ups will also keep the little people entertained whilst you browse for a little something for yourself too!

So whether sauntering through Seatoun in a sassy sandal, wandering through Wadestown in a wonderful wedge, or puddle-jumping in Petone in a glorious gumboot, your feet will be in good hands this spring.
