Go Green Over Wellington’s Conference Industry

It’s here and it’s bigger and greener than ever – the Wellington Meeting & Incentive Planner 2008/2009. Produced by the Wellington Convention Bureau, the Planner is the authority on Wellington’s range of meeting venues, services and activities for conference organisers.
It is Wellington’s biggest Meeting & Incentive Planner to date, with 20% more pages than last year’s. It has 24% more advertisers, which include conference venues, hotels and service and activity providers. But this year’s Planner also has a special edge – the bulk of it is printed on 55% recycled paper.
Wellington Convention Bureau Sales Manager Martin Boland says the Planner plays a crucial role in helping grow Wellington’s $120 million per annum conference industry. He says the decision to use recycled paper reflects a new level of consciousness about the environment within the conference industry.
“New Zealand’s conference sector is starting to incorporate environmentally-aware behaviours and strategies into the way it does business. In Wellington we’re seeing several major players take steps in this direction, and the Planner pays tribute to this.”
One such player is the Wellington Convention Centre, which runs the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington Town Hall and TSB Bank Arena. Wellington Convention Centre Business Development Manager Gillian Officer says the Wellington Meeting & Incentive Planner is an essential resource for conference organisers, and one they are proud to be part of.
"As an environmentally sustainable venue, we are continuously striving to reduce our impact on the environment. Using sustainable materials is very important to us
and the fact that the Planner is made from 55% recycled stock highlights Wellington’s determination to be an environmentally friendly city.”
The Wellington Meeting & Incentive Planner 2008/2009 was launched at the Quality Hotel Wellington on 23 January. More than 1,800 copies are currently being distributed in New Zealand, and 500 copies in Australia.
