Visitors and locals wanting a literal taste of Wellington will be left absolutely positively salivating by the latest addition to the capital's culinary scene.
The City Market – a new weekly food and wine market showcasing local artisan products and producers – opens on Sunday 14 June. Situated alongside the existing Waitangi Park outdoor market, the City Market is championed by award-winning chef Martin Bosley and Rachel Taulelei of local food company Yellow Brick Road. The market will bring a stellar line-up of local artisan food and beverage producers together under one roof at Chaffers Dock Function Centre. It will also feature wine tastings, event previews, chef demonstrations, and entertainment.
“The Wellington region has an amazing array of artisan food producers. Our aim is to bring people who are passionate about food closer to those who grow, harvest and manufacture top quality food products locally. We are excited by the prospect of building a really passionate food community right in the heart of the city and contributing to the vibrancy of Wellington,” says Martin Bosley.
Stallholders at the City Market have been selected based on their authenticity, quality and location in the Wellington region, and will include Emporio Coffee, Schoc Chocolates, Loukoumi Turkish Delight, Lot 8 olive oils, Hardie Boys Ginger Beer, Lavender’s Green, Archer McRae Wine Merchants, the French Baker and Horowhenua Produce Growers.
The City Market will run every Sunday between 8.30am and 12.30pm in the atrium at the Chaffers Dock Function Centre. The market is a non-profit organisation, with all proceeds from sales going directly to stallholders.
