Wellington is the place to be as the World of WearableArt™Awards Show Season readies itself for lift-off with pop-up street performances, “green screen” photo opportunities and the chance to win a WOW®-inspired holiday break.

The WOW® excitement levels will hit top gear with a string of vivid and flamboyant street performances taking place around the city. The first performance is on Lambton Quay at 1.00pm on Wednesday 23 September.

“WOW® is all about grace and beauty, innovation in design, and putting on a performance that lingers for a lifetime. The street performances give a wonderful glimpse into that magical world as the city fills up with WOW®-goers” said Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) Chief Executive David Perks.

“Wherever you are in the city you’ll be able to get a taste of the colour and excitement that has become the hallmark of WOW®.”

WOW® founder Dame Suzie Moncrieff said she was “brimming with excitement” about all of the events that are happening in the lead up to WOW®, as well as the event itself.

“People will be dazzled and amazed at what they see during this year’s show. It also heralds the start of the Show Season in Wellington which is highly anticipated by the audience and businesses in the city.”

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is an avid WOW® fan and says the event is always enjoyable, attracts many visitors, and is a boost for hospitality and retail in the city. “This unique art form is at home in the Capital,” she says.

WOW® fans get ample opportunity to inject themselves into the WOW® landscape by having their photo taken in front of a hi-tech green screen which magically inserts them into a WOW®-inspired image. The green screen will be at all pop up events, at various locations throughout the city on event days, and outside the TSB Bank Arena during the shows.

There is also a WOW® retail competition where shoppers buying from participating stores can go in the draw to win a return trip for two to Honolulu from any Air New Zealand-serviced airport in the country, three nights’ accommodation, and two tickets to the WOW® exhibition at the Bishop Museum. To make it easy for visitors, a retail map will be sent out to attendees before they arrive in Wellington, and can also be downloaded.

A number of Wellington bars and restaurants are also offering a range of pre-and post-show deals.

The 2015 show season runs from 24 September-11 October at the TSB Bank Arena.  You can find out more at WellingtonNZ.com/WOW
