Travel conference a double win for Wellington

6 Oct 2014

Australian travel agency group helloworld announced on Sunday that its 2015 conference will be held in Wellington, bringing an estimated $225,000 to the city during their three-night conference next November.

Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) Chief Executive David Perks says securing a conference of Australian travel agency owner/managers is a double win for Wellington.

“A conference of this size is firstly a great result for our Business Events Wellington team. It also means that a group of people who sell over $4.9 billion of travel to Australians annually will get a first-hand experience of Wellington. That’s absolutely a positive.”

helloworld’s Head of Associate Networks David Padman says that choosing a conference location in the travel & tourism industry is a critical decision.

“Wellington is a popular destination for Australians and the opportunity to have our agents experience the magic of Wellington makes sense.”

Mr Perks says the local industry will undoubtedly benefit from the conference long after the delegates return to Australia.

“The helloworld team are experienced global travel operators.  I have no doubt that they’ll recognise the strength of Wellington’s tourism proposition while they’re here, and will take that insight back to their Australian clients.”

The conference and business events industry generates over $100m a year for the Wellington region.
