The People Say Wellington is Choice

08 October 2007

Wellington took some top wins at the recent People's Choice Awards, confirming the city’s reputation for great conference venues and services.

The 2007 People's Choice Awards were issued by the Corporate Events Guide, and honour New Zealand companies who excel in the industry of event facilities and management. The winning companies were generated from event planners across New Zealand who had a positive experience with each business.

James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor was winner of the Hotel category. Located in the heart of Wellington, the hotel offers a diverse selection of eight meeting venues catering from two to 350 delegates.

Jill Murphy, Director of Sales and Marketing at James Cook Hotel, says the team was thrilled at their win.

“It goes to show that the hard work, and attention to detail that the conference team offers to our clients does have its rewards.”

Another of Wellington’s top hotels, Duxton Hotel Wellington, took Finalist #1 place in the Hotel category.

But the awards don’t stop there. Wellington also scooped the Conference and Event Organisers category, with Clockwork the winner and Conference Works taking Finalist #1 place.

Wellington luxury corporate and social retreat Boomrock won the Private Hire Venues category, and Trentham Gardens placed Finalist #1 in the same category.

The awards confirmed that Wellington knows how to put on a party. Totally Frocked won the Event Theming and Stylist category, The Improvisers were Finalist #1 in the Entertainment category, Corporate Caterers placed Finalist #2 in the Caterers category, Pod Restaurant was Finalist #2 in the Restaurants category and Vidcom was Finalist #2 in the Audio/Visual/Lighting Rental category.

Wellington Convention Bureau Sales Manager Martin Boland says the awards confirm the strength of Wellington’s conference industry.

“Wellington is one of the country’s premier conference destinations. We have a fantastic range of venues, matched with excellent event organisers and services. Awards such as these confirm just how strong our offer is, and are a sign of confidence in our local convention industry.”
