The next long weekend is coming up…a great opportunity for a quick trip to Wellington. Get away from the daily grind and do a spot of shopping, enjoy some delicious food, drink great coffee and see a show.

...at Circa see Chekov in Hell, a play about Anton Chekhov, playwright, author, and pitiless observer of Russian society, who awakes from a hundred-year coma and finds himself in twenty-first century London. Or perhaps check out some theatresports with The Improvisors for a good laugh? Downstage Theatre has The Intricate Art of Actually Caring, a hip, funny and moving play with an award winning script.
Enjoy the international phenomenon Riverdance as it returns to New Zealand for The Farewell Tour. A thunderous celebration of Irish music, song and dance.

Or see Rasta Thomas’ Rock the Ballet, a fusion of classic ballet technique blended with the excitement of musical theatre, hip hop, ballet, tap, contemporary, gymnastics and more. A thrilling, fleshy, raunchy, powerful and brilliantly entertaining show!
...try one of 72 on offer as part of the Documentary Edge Film Festival. A festival celebrating the best documantary films from around the world.
Catch The Black Seed's live as they tour their new album Dust and Dirt.

Heading out for brunch? Cuba Street has plenty of choice - Fidel's, Floriditas, or Olive won't disappoint. For something a bit more fancy try Capitol or Matterhorn.
If you're after fresh Wellington produce or some great Wellington crafts head to the wide variety of markets on offer each weekend.
Enjoy a fancy meal out at one of Wellington's top restaurants, Logan Brown, Matterhorn, or Martin Bosley's. If you can't decide, try more than one!
Or for something more casual try the creole food and curly fries at Sweet Mother's Kitchen, mediterranean delights at Osteria del Toro, tapas at Duke Carvell's, South East Asian cuisine at Monsoon Poon or modern Asian at Chow.
If you feel like some tasty treats, try one of Wellington's many High Teas on offer. Our favourites are Martha's Pantry and Finc - other good ones are Hippopotamus at the Museum Hotel and James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor.
Indulge in cheese and dessert fondues at Beach Babylon - the butterscotch with chocolate brownie is our pick.

...pop into a class or two at HANDMADE and learn the skills and crafts of previous generations but in today's context, using modern technology and style.
Explore Zealandia: The Exhibition or take a look at the NZ sky with the new Planetariam show at Carter Observatory.
Wander some of Wellington's walkways with our free Welly Walks iPhone application. It'll help you discover all the best tourist spots and hidden gems in Wellington; nature reserves, forests, farmlands and the rugged South Coast; landmarks and historic sites; public art and picturesque views.
Have a day out shopping and check out what the winter fashion has to offer at all the hot shopping spots around Wellington, such as Featherston Street, Victoria/Wakefield Street and Old Bank Shopping Arcade for designer gears. Or head up Cuba Street for funky jewellery and vintage goods.
Haven't been to Wellington for a while? Be sure to pop up to Mt Victoria or up the Cable Car to the Botanic Garden to check out the amazing views over the harbour and city.
Tons of other events are on over the weekend - here's the full list.

...check out some of our top bars - our faves are Motel, Hawthorn, The Library, Cuckoo Cocktail Emporium (where almost everything is for sale including the furniture!), Foxglove (look out for the wardrobe) and Alice (fab teapot cocktails!).
