Wellington and Wairarapa’s annual Trade Day at SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland next month promises to be a cool affair.
Positively Wellington Tourism Chief Executive David Perks says the organisation will be continuing its celebration of the Lonely Planet acclaim at the event on Thursday May 5.
“Lonely Planet’s inclusion of Wellington at #4 on its top 10 cities to visit this year has been incredible for the city and secured a lot of media coverage for New Zealand as a whole. We’ll be running with the theme – but that’s all I’m allowed to say.”
GreatSights’ CitySights hop on-hop off tour will be one of a number of new tour products exhibiting at the Trade Day. Popular Wellington Rover Tours have introduced a new Wind Turbine and Seals experience, while John McKinney has recently launched a revamped hop on-hop off city tour.
With analysts predicting a sharp but short effect on our industry, the Wellington & Wairarapa Trade Day is a great opportunity for our industry to get together and work through short and long term solutions to the challenges tourism currently faces,” Mr Perks says.
“An array of new and refined products on offer, coupled with Wellington’s strong marketing platform, puts us in a positive position at what is a pretty tough time for all involved.”
The region’s growing reputation as the country’s culinary capital is keeping Zest Food Tours busy. They’ll be able to talk all things tasty and about their new Sunday Gourmet tour at Trade Day, while those with adventuresome clients will be able to catch up with the team from the newly opened Adrenalin Forest and Wellington Adventure Quad Bikes.
On the accommodation front, stunningly refurbished and rebranded Amora Hotel Wellington will be a must-see, as will the Museum Art Hotel, whose latest creation includes a stylish fit out and cocktail menu design at its award-winning Hippopotamus bar & restaurant. Contemporary country accommodation, Summit Lodge, joins us for the first time. The five star rural retreat lies in the sheep farming and wine-growing Gladstone region, just north of Martinborough.
Of course it’s not a tourism industry event without a travel prize. Attendees will be in to win their choice of a visit to Visa Wellington On a Plate or tickets to the famous Wellington Sevens, which sells out in just over three minutes.
