What’s Your Style?

Days spent musing over whether your sense of style is more Edwardian Emma or Chic Caroline are over - Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT), Te Papa and digital agency Touch/Cast have fashioned a new Facebook application designed to reveal your sense of style.

What’s Your Style? showcases garments from the Te Papa exhibition Unveiled: 200 years of wedding fashion from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, along with a selection of other designs.

PWT Chief Executive David Perks says the application is designed to create awareness of Unveiled – which opens on Saturday - and appreciation for the depth of detail in the historic garments.

“When we started looking into how to help promote Unveiled what struck our team was not just the quality and intricacy of these garments, but the intriguing stories that go with them. There’s also some pretty unique materials that have been used, including silicone and PVC!”

The app on the Absolutely Positively Wellington facebook page sees users select their preference between a series of two dresses until they’re left their ultimate dress.  Thoroughly scientific descriptions* concocted by a range of interested parties then define their style. What’s Your Style? users can enter a draw to win return flights to Wellington for two, accommodation, tickets to the exhibition and a $100 Visa prezzy card.

Unveiled: 200 years of wedding fashion from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, opens on Saturday and runs through until April 22. The exhibition explores the history of the wedding dress from the early 1800s through to the present day through the fascinating stories behind the garments and their wearers, including such celebrities as Gwen Stefani and Dita von Teese. There are approximately 47 garments and ensembles, along with a wide range of accessories such as headwear, garters, veils, wreaths and party favours.

* The term ‘thoroughly scientific’ should be taken loosely in this particular instance.
