The New Zealand Centre for Photography was established in 1985 with a mission to promote NZ photography and to support the independent photographer - amateur, professional, student, educator.
The Centre has a reference library of books and magazines from NZ and around the world. It offers videos and tape/slide sets which cover much of photography's national and international history. Also houses a camera collection - an unparalleled journey into photography's technical past - with one of the first snapshot cameras from 1888. The Centre creates teaching aids for schools and organises lectures and workshops by distinguished national and international photographers.
Publishes quarterly New Zealand Journal of Photography.
