ZEALANDIA: The Karori Sanctuary Experience

  • Waiapu Road, Karori, Wellington 6012 View map

Just minutes from downtown Wellington, but worlds apart, ZEALANDIA is the world’s first fully-fenced wildlife safe haven. The LEOTC programme offers students of all ages a unique opportunity to experience cutting-edge conservation in action.

During your tour of the Sanctuary Valley, you will have a chance to see and hear some of New Zealand’s most endangered native animals. Tuatara, kaka, hihi, saddleback and dozens more iconic species live freely within our 225ha safe haven. A major new permanent two-storey exhibition brings New Zealand’s natural history and conservation story alive with state-of-the-art multimedia exhibits.

ZEALANDIA is a contracted supplier for LEOTC. Choose from a range of fascinating primary curriculum-linked programmes and NCEA achievement standards-linked secondary programmes or work with our Education Team to tailor your own tour.

Tours generally last two hours and operate in all weathers so appropriate clothing is required. Bookings are essential. Visit the website for further information including comprehensive supporting resources.
