Take a virtual journey through space in Carter's new planetarium, a state-of-the-art full-dome digital theatre. Then take your own steps through space as you walk through the world-class interactive multimedia space experience.

Discover our Universe, along with some of New Zealand's most prestigious telescopes and astronomical artifacts.

Carter is open 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm, with late night stargazing every Tuesday and Saturday until 9pm (weather-permitting!).

We Are Aliens

Our quest to know if we are alone in the Universe has only just begun. As our understanding of how life works continues to grow, so does the number of planets we discover. The possibility that we are not alone is a thought so compelling it will surely drive us forward in our search for answers.

Begins 21 November 2012.

Wildest Weather in the Solar System

Join National Geographic on a spectacular journey to witness the most beautiful, powerful, and mysterious weather phenomena in the solar system. From a storm the size of a 100-megaton hydrogen bomb, to a 400-year-old hurricane, to a dust tempest that could engulf entire planets, you'll be glad you live on Earth!
