The Weta Cave is the shop front of the world famous Oscar-winning Weta Workshop where visitors can view a selection of props, pick up collectibles and watch an exclusive behind-the-scenes film in their mini theatrette.
Weta Workshop was propelled to fame through the sets, costumes, armour, weapons and creatures produced for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The company’s digital division was formed in 1993 to produce special effects for Heavenly Creatures – the screen debut for actresses Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey.
Weta Digital’s team of elite special effects artists have won Academy Awards for The Lord of the Rings, King Kong and their work on Avatar, which became the world’s biggest-selling movie. They have also worked on films such as Tintin and District 9.
