Kapiti Island Nature Reserve

Kapiti Island is an internationally important reserve for some of the world's most endangered birds.The reserve is now free from rats and mice, and bird and plant life are responding to the opportunity this provides.

A permit from the Department of Conservation's Wellington Conservation Information Centre is required to enter the Island. Transport is provided by two licensed boat operators. A guided walk&talk is available from a licensed concessionaire.
