  • 25 Tinakori Road, Thorndon, Wellington View map

Explore the private world of Katherine Mansfield on Wellington Open Day, Sunday 27 May, for only a gold coin donation. Visit the house where she was born, now meticulously restored to how it was in 1888, the year of her birth, and experience the colonial Victorian world she lived in and wrote about in some of her most famous stories.

Step back into Victorian New Zealand at the 1888 birthplace of Katherine Mansfield Beauchamp. New Zealand's most famous author and one of the world's best-known short story writers. Nestled on historic Tinakori Road, the exquisitely restored house and the heritage garden provide an essential background to Mansfield's writing and give a unique opportunity to experience New Zealand society of the time. Guided tours can be pre-booked for groups of more than 5 people.

Number 1 in the Thorndon Heritage Trail. Winner 1999 PATA Grand Award, 1994 New Zealand Tourism Award. Category 1 of the NZ Historic Places Trust register.
