The National Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa, is one of the country's leading cultural and information centres.
It also houses the world famous Alexander Turnbull Library, a "library within a library", specialising in documentary materials - books, manuscripts, photographs, drawings and prints, cartoons, music, newspapers, maps and oral histories. The Gallery exhibits works primarily from the Library's heritage collections and also runs a lively events programme.
However, The Library’s Wellington building has now closed for redevelopment. Library staff, services and some access to collections are temporarily relocated through the redevelopment period at the following locations:
77 Thorndon Quay - At the Library’s reading room at 77 Thorndon Quay, you can access a wide range of printed materials, indexes, electronic subscriber resources, music, children’s books and more.
At Archives New Zealand - At Archives New Zealand you can access heritage materials from the collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library, along with the National Library’s Dorothy Neal White collection.
