Wellington Zoo

New Zealand’s oldest Zoo, Wellington Zoo offers unique experiences in an interactive and exciting environment of conservation, learning and fun.

If you’re keen for a truly unique animal experience, try a Close Encounter and interact with cheetahs, red pandas, giraffes and many more engaging animals.

Sleep over at the Zoo and wake up inside the Zoo grounds with native and exotic animals. Gobble down your breakfast before venturing behind the scenes with a specialised Zoo Tour Guide.

If you’re looking for that little bit extra, Zoopreme Sleepovers offer a delicious spin with a yummy cake for supper and breakfast from Velluto at the Zoo.

Become the proud parent of an adopted Zoo animal. Help us to look after our animals by adopting your choice of exotic or native animal from Wellington Zoo. Your contribution helps us to help endangered species through conservation education.

Teachers, give your class a unique opportunity to learn about eco-systems and the wildlife, flora and fauna within them. Book a Learning Experience Outside the Classroom in the Wellington Zoo Living Room.

Visitors to Wellington Zoo now have opportunity to meet Tahi the one legged kiwi. At 1.15pm each day, Tahi will be in a specially built encounter area at the entrance of Te Ao Maahina, The Twilight - Wellington Zoos nocturnal house. He will be accompanied by one of Wellington Zoos roving guides who will be there to answer questions.

Tahi is an advocate for his species. He lost his leg after it was caught in a hunting trap in the bush. Despite best efforts, vets were unable to save it, so his leg was amputated just below the knee joint.
