Do I need to pre-book accommodation and transport?
It's a good idea to book at least your first two nights of accommodation in advance, especially during the busy summer period in Wellington - from December to February. Booking transport in advance is also recommended, especially in summer.

You can book ferry, coach, accommodation, activities and tours for Wellington and New Zealand through our official Wellington i-SITE Visitor Centre or you can book Wellington accommodation and tours online.

What can I do in Wellington with my family?

Getting around

How far is it from the Wellington Airport to the city centre?
It is approximately 10 kms/15 minutes from the airport to the city centre. A taxi will cost approximately $25. A shuttle can be taken into the city for $15. The Stagecoach Flyer express bus service regularly leaves the airport and goes as far as Upper Hutt.

Do I need a car to travel within Wellington city?
No, everything in downtown Wellington is within walking distance and for venturing further out there is a regular bus, train and ferry service.

How do I find out about bus, train and ferry timetables information?
Wellington has a great public transport system, through out the city and linking with the region. Visit the MetLink website or in New Zealand free-phone 0800 801 700.

Where can I park my motor-home or campervan?
We have a brand new motor-home park right on our waterfront! The Wellington Waterfront Motorhome Park is ideally located near the inter-island ferries and it's only $50 per night.

Yes. Positively Wellington Tourism undertakes research on tourism in the Wellington region. However, we are not resourced to assist with school or university assignments by answering individual assignments, providing comment on specific questions or opinion pieces on your assignment topics. What is Wellington's Population?

Do you offer internships?
Positively Wellington Tourism is always interested to hear from people who would like to work at the Wellington i-SITE Visitor Centre. The marketing office does not offer internships, but the Careers page is regularly updated.
