Public Transport

Wellington has an excellent public transport system which is well used by the locals. Metlink has an easy to use journey planner to help you get anywhere within the Wellington region.

Metlink services include buses, trains and ferries. 

A Snapper card is the fastest, most cost-effective way to pay for single journeys on nearly 400 buses in the Wellington region, across Go Wellington, Valley Flyer, Airport Flyer and Runcimans services.

The Wellington Cable Car leaves from downtown Wellington to the leafy, village-like suburb of Kelburn. At the top of the Cable Car, you will find some of the best views of Wellington. Here, you will also find the award-winning Cable Car Museum, and the start of the Wellington Botanic Garden.
