WellingtonNZ.com gets a te reo makeover
Looking to add a little more kupu word Māori | Noun to your day? We've put together a project that aims to bring a lot more Te Reo Māori to our website
From Te wiki o te Reo Māori 2021, visitors to WellingtonNZ.com can learn the meanings and hear the pronunciation for the te reo kupu used on the website.
WellingtonNZ has worked with Te Aka Māori-English, English-Māori Dictionary, Māpuna Consultants and website developer DNA to integrate the Māori Dictionary into the site.
This allows users to click on highlighted Te Reo Māori words to see the English translation and hear the correct pronunciation.
The development has been done using Silverstripe, a local digital content management system, and has been made open source meaning any other websites using Silverstripe – common with government organisations and regional tourism organisations – can now also access the tool for free.
The next step is for more words on WellingtonNZ.com, including English words, to be changed to Te Reo Māori. The words that you can translate now are listed in the Te Reo Māori glossary.
This mahi is part of WellingtonNZ’s commitment to the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
