New Zealand fell in love with ‘Have a Love Affair’, which set a new benchmark for tourism marketing in its time. The campaign combined a TV brand campaign with commercials promoting Te Papa Tongarewa exhibitions, an event calendar and some online and magazine advertising.
The campaign won a New Zealand Tourism Award in 2006 and changed the face of destination marketing in our fair country. It was sultry but sweet. It told a story. The actors were hot and didn’t have spiral perms.
But it doesn’t just look good. It, like campaigns before it, worked. Domestic commercial guest nights in Wellington city increased almost 18% in the three years of the campaign.
