Wellington is home to many iconic events, from major international sporting events to concerts and festivals, and WREDA supports many of them.
We work with many events to help advance the Wellington economy, amplify Wellington’s profile and reputation, and enhance social benefits for the region. We primarily do this in two ways: event marketing support and event sponsorship.
WREDA acts as a promotional channel for Wellington, continuously growing its subscribed audience and web visitation in order to drive visitation and event attendance.
We talk to over 3 million visitors to WellingtonNZ.com and over 320,000 fans of Wellington across social media and eNewsletters.
Our digital channels are operated editorially, with promotional exposure taking into account the size of an event, lead-in time, relevance to various target markets, content quality and demand for space.
For larger events, WREDA is able to provide a valued marketing schedule that you can add into your overall marketing activity summary.

The Major Events team administer event sponsorship (Major Event Fund), manage the city’s relationship with the sponsored events and enable events with opportunities to succeed.
We prospect for events, assess sponsorship applications, work with various stakeholders on logistics and operations, as well as create excitement around the event in unique ways.
As an invested partner, we primarily sponsor events to provide a return on investment in the form of economic benefits to Wellington City. Our goals are also to raise the global profile of the city and region for business, to stimulate economic growth and increase regional vibrancy for our residents. We will leverage sponsored events to make Wellington a place where people love to work, live and conduct business.
