The thought of studying in a foreign land can be both exciting and terrifying but New Zealand’s capital city Wellington has a simple solution – visit the city for free to check it out first.

WREDA’s latest campaign to attract international students to the region will see one prospective student win a study trip of a lifetime to see Wellington in all its glory.

But will the lucky winner take their mum or their bestie? That’s the dilemma posed in the campaign’s video which offers a return trip for two to Wellington, five nights accommodation, $1000 spending money, and a tour of top study institutions and tourism attractions.

The winner and their chosen guest will travel to Wellington in either June or July this year.

WREDA’s Talent, Skills and Education Manager Brook Pannell says the key international student markets of India and Vietnam are a focus with the online campaign but the competition is open to prospective international students from anywhere outside New Zealand.

“The video concentrates on the things that make Wellington such a great destination in its own right: the beautiful views from Mt Victoria; innovative thinking of locals; the clean sparkling harbour; and Wellington’s innate sense of fun.

“Add that to the line-up of world class educational institutions including two universities, Youbee School of Design and the Te Auaha: NZ Institute of Creativity and you can see why there are more than 8500 international students calling Wellington home.

“The competition winner will get the chance to join their fellow students after visiting Wellington which they’ll quickly see provides a vibrant environment that allows international students to be the best they can be. They just need to decide whether they visit with their mum or best friend,” Mr Pannell says.

The video was created by Wellington video production company Wrestler. The media agency used was Wellington-based OMD.

  • Five nights' accommodation
  • A tour at some of Wellington's world-leading study institutions
  • $500 spending money per person
  • Tickets to top tourist attractions

Competition closes 2 June 2019. Entrants must be available to travel to Wellington in June or July 2019.
