Over the last year we have been recording where people come from and how much they spend on Wellington product when they come in to visit the Wellington i-SITE visitor information centre.
Currently we are seeing a mix of 85% international visitors and 15% domestic visitors.
Internationally, Germans are leading the charge on numbers followed closely by the Aussies, Brits, Americans and the French. When it comes to spend the Finn’s are on top followed by the Norwegians, Mexicans and Austrians.
Domestically, Wellingtonians are the biggest users of the Wellington i-SITE, which can be attributed to the i-SITE now being the central service centre for Snapper and ticket sales to many local events like Visa Wellington on a Plate.
Recently we have made several changes, in order to encourage visitors to come into the Wellington i-SITE Visitor Information Centre.
We installed China Union Pay – to assist Chinese visitors with purchases in their local currency.
We also became the local Snapper service provider for faulty and damaged cards, processing of refunds, loading passes and concessions for children and students.
This summer summer we recruited staff that speak Mandarin, Cantonese, German, French and Spanish. This has been especially helpful on cruise days and with the influx of international students.

All i-SITE staff have also attended one of the i-SITE NZ 100% pure welcome workshops, Tourism New Zealands 100% pure New Zealand specialist online training modules and sales training to assist in their local and national knowledge
