Wellington window displays wow judges

29 Sep 2014

Featherston Street's deNada has been chosen as the winner of the Judge's Choice Award in the annual WOW® Window Dressing Competition.

WOW Window deNada 03

From over 60 participating Wellington stores, judges of the WOW® Window Dressing Competition have selected Featherston Street fashion retailer deNada as the winner of a prize package worth over $7,000.

The People’s Choice Award is still to be chosen, with locals and visitors encouraged to vote daily for their favourite windows via before 7 October.

The official panel for the Judge’s Choice Award consisted of Sue Prescott, a previous WOW® entrant and judge, and Nicolle Aston, who has over 20 years’ experience as a visual merchandiser.

Windows were assessed on the creative use of the colour red, resourcefulness, effort and “WOW factor”. Aston praised the winning entry as:

“An impressive composition. Perfectly offset to one side with layers of texture, colour, and exceptional creativity. An emphasis on detail sets it apart.”

Prescott was impressed with the number of excellent entries.

“The overall calibre of the windows in this year’s competition was amazing, and all reflected huge amounts of time, passion and support for WOW® from the staff. The detail and narrative within each retail outlet display demonstrated innovative thinking in composition, use of colour, interactivity.”

deNada’s design included body casts of actual customers, and elements that appear to magically “pass through” the store window. Store Manager Hilly Lutte says the competition was a chance to push the team’s creative boundaries:

“The idea was to do something outstanding, so that people would stop, look and say "wow that is cool". It had to be creative...Something that would spark people's curiosity and draw them into our store.”

Designer and Director Nada Piątek says that the team is looking forward to attending WOW® to celebrate the win.

“WOW® is a busy, lively time for us, when Wellington is at its creative best. My outstanding, inspiring deNada team will be coming to the show. It was a team effort, to be celebrated together.”

Consumers can still vote in the People’s Choice Award via until midnight, 7 October, with the store with the highest number votes being crowed the People’s Choice. All consumers that vote will also go into the daily prize draw to win a $50 voucher from one of the participating stores.
