The Kelburn native finished his BCom studies at Victoria University and scored a marketing role at Burger Fuel before packing up to head to the United States.
“I’d wanted to live in LA for a long time and it was a life-changing experience – I gained a whole new level of resiliency,” says Alex.
While in LA, Alex worked for powerhouse brands like Shake Shack and Coolhaus, as well as iHeartMedia where he learned the tricks of the trade into booking advertising in one of the busiest cities in the world. Alex also helped launch the popular health focused Asian Box restaurants.
Returning home, Alex worked for the Wellington Hospitality Group and honed his skills before making the gutsy leap to launching Socialike Media – a full-service social media and digital marketing agency.
“I’d wanted to start my own business in social media and digital marketing for a while, and felt it was the right time,” he says.
Alex brings impressive knowledge and an in-depth understanding of social media to Wellington with Socialike Media, especially when social media algorithms change frequently.

One of Alex’s top tips for businesses is to always remember communication is two-way, and brands should look at engaging with their followers.
“Businesses should also make sure they communicate with people from all backgrounds – add subtitles to videos and make content easily understandable and digestible. Test out different captions and content alongside engaging photos.”
