Get an insight into what went on behind the scenes, and meet the people who helped create The Wellington Story.
In February 2014, Wellington went out to seven local Wellington filmmakers and production companies to pitch to produce a series of videos communicating The Wellington Story. After much deliberation, local production company Storybox was chosen as the company to visually tell our fantastic story.
The end product is a suite of seven videos, starring local actor Simon Smith. They are fun, edgy, quirky, creative and original – exactly what Wellington is.
The series was developed for everyone, whether that’s a CCO, business or education provider, to use as a tool to incorporate into their communications and marketing to attract people and businesses to Wellington.

Award-winning Wellington production and design company Storybox is the creative studio behind The Wellington Story video series. This multi-talented team were the ideal company to bring our tales to life with a distinctively Wellington attitude.
Creative Director and owner Rob Appierdo says “Wellington’s a place where reaching for new ideas is encouraged; where leadership – in business, technology, art, politics and more – is a challenge we all take on, every day. This city likes to set the tone, not follow it. So we tried to bring some of that unique quality to our concept for the stories, and wrap it up in a sense of humour that’s distinctive and authentic.”
This city is a place that immediately charms you - with its wild weather, stunning topography, self-deprecating humour, thriving creative culture and laid-back lifestyle.
