A 20-minute boat ride from Paraparaumu Beach through the Kapiti Marine Sanctuary is Kapiti Island. Enjoy a 30-minute presentation at the DOC centre where the group will learn about the natural history of Kapiti Island, the ecology of the island and stories of the Ngati Toa Rangitira and sustainability. In the approximate 5 hours participants are on the island you will see rare and endangered birds in their natural environment, birds found nowhere else in the world. Delegates can wander through the tracks up to the bird feeding station before climbing to the summit to see a breathtaking 360-degree view of Kapiti and Tasman sea.

Nga Manu Nature Reserve Walk

Take a walk around the 14 hectare Ngā Manu Reserve which comprises a mosaic of habitats including the largest remnant of lowland swamp forest remaining on the Kāpiti Coast, ponds, wetlands, open lawn areas, walk-through aviaries, reptile enclosures, and a nocturnal house for kiwi. Ngā Manu volunteers offer free guided forest walks at weekends which are a great introduction to the unique values of our environment. Pack lunch and make use of the picnic tables, seats and barbecue facilities that are dotted throughout the Reserve.

Sea Kayak to Kapiti Island

Trip over to Kapiti Island on a purpose-built ferry. Once there, enjoy 2.5 hours of guided Kayaking in the Marine Reserve followed by a 2.5-hour walk exploring the tracks and experiencing the amazing nature of the island. Sea kayaking is in double sea kayaks which are very safe and stable but is dependent on sea conditions.
