Wairarapa

Located north of Wellington, the Wairarapa is a region of spectacular coastlines, wide valleys, green pastures and eclectic villages. It's famous for its vineyards, gourmet food, walking and cycling trails – and has a vibrant arts scene and friendly community feel. Spend a day cycling the country roads of Martinborough, pausing for tastings at some of the 20-plus boutique vineyards, sample delicious cheeses at a world-class cheese deli C'est Cheese in Featherston, or head to charming Greytown for a spot of boutique shopping. Kāpiti

Just 50km north of Wellington, the Kāpiti Coast is an idyllic destination featuring stunning unspoiled beaches and a warm coastal climate. Take a trip to an island nature reserve with Kapiti Island Nature Tours where you can take home memories of cheeky kākās, takahē, tuatara, gecko or spotting kiwi at night; sample local cuisine and craft beer at the Tuatara craft brewery in Paraparaumu; and hike the stunning Escarpment Track for memorable views across the region.

Discover contemporary art and legends of Māori Taniwha at The Dowse Art Museum, a world-class art gallery. Spend some time in Petone, home to coffee roasters, food producers, fashion labels, craft beer and artisan products that are keeping the innovative early settler spirit alive. Relax on the Eastern shores of Wellington Harbour and soak up the sunshine at Days Bay or Eastbourne, or take in the coastal views on the journey to the iconic Pencarrow lighthouses.
Marlborough
