As the Regional Business Partner for the Wellington region, WellingtonNZ is working in tandem with the Government to ensure businesses receive practical advice and support as they tackle the impacts of COVID-19. WellingtonNZ will offer additional advisory support, as well as hosting a series of online workshops.  

WellingtonNZ will also collect regional information on issues and impacts of Covid-19 to share with the Government so appropriate responses can be developed.  

We will regularly contact businesses to survey their evolving needs during this unprecedented pandemic. This page will be updated with more information as it is confirmed.

Government support for impacted businesses

The Government has announced a comprehensive $12.1 billion package to help manage the economic impacts of Covid-19. Within this, $8.7 billion will be available to enterprises and staff to businesses who may face laying off or reducing staff hours because of COVID-19. If you are an employer, contractor, sole trader or self-employed you may qualify to get the COVID-19 wage subsidy. 

To qualify, your business must be registered and operating in New Zealand, your employees must be legally working in New Zealand, the business must have experienced a minimum 30% decline in actual or predicted revenue over the period of a month when compared with the same month last year, and that decline is related to COVID-19, your business must have taken active steps to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, and you must make best efforts to retain employees and pay them a minimum of 80% of their normal income for the subsidised period.

Apply online for COVID-19 Wage Subsidy or COVID-19 Leave Payment

When you apply you will need to provide your IRD number, business name and address, names of your employees and their IRD numbers, and contact details for your business and your employees. Processing and approving applications will happen as quickly as possible - the aim is to make payments five working days after required information has been received – but this will depend on the volume of applications received.
