Hawke's Bay

Day 1

Elephant Hill Food
  • Start your holiday with a trip to the skies on a scenic helicopter flight over the region! You could even charter a helicopter to go golfing or visit wineries.
  • Tantalise your taste buds exploring farm-gate and artisan food producers along the Hawke's Bay Food Trail – you can collect a copy of the Food Trail map from any i-SITE visitor centre.
  • Step back in time on a guided vintage car tour of Art Deco Napier. Learn about the 1931 earthquake and subsequent stunning art deco architecture. 
  • Stroll along the fashion boutiques and art galleries, and if you’re there in the weekend, head to the Farmers’ Markets to mix with the locals and taste the delicious array of Hawke’s Bay produce and gourmet foods.
  • Treat yourself to a Thalgo beauty treatment or massage at Mangapapa Petit Hotel's Spa Retreat.
  • Soak in the hot pools overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the Ocean Spa complex.
  • Go to cooking school at Breckenridge Lodge with renowned chef Malcolm Redmond. Prepare a three-course meal using fresh and local ingredients, then enjoy it matched with wine.

Drive south today along State Highway 2 through the Tararua District, following the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail signs into the Wairarapa region. 


Day 2

  • Visit the colonial village of Greytown. Browse the antique, homeware and fashion shops and art galleries.
  • Give in to your sweet tooth at Schoc, an artisan chocolate studio located on the main street of Greytown.
  • For lunch take a drive to Wharekauhau Country Estate, one of New Zealand’s most exclusive lodges, and enjoy breath-taking views of magnificent Palliser Bay.
  • Cruise through the vineyards of Martinborough on a cycle tour, stopping for tastings along the way, meeting the owners and wine-makers, and enjoy a packed gourmet lunch. Wander the boutiques in the town square and stop in at Martinborough Wine Centre.
  • Enjoy a gourmet dinner and some of the finest local wines.

It’s just a brief drive over the Rimutaka Hill to the coolest little capital in the world.


Day 3

Oriental Bay Beach

Fly over Cook Strait to Marlborough with Picton Floatplane Service. If you take the Interislander ferry between Wellington and Picton, make sure you upgrade to the on-board Premium Plus lounges.


Day 4

Marlborough Mussels
  • Tour the wineries of New Zealand’s largest wine growing region, sample New Zealand’s internationally-acclaimed Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Relax and unwind over a leisurely lunch at one of the many award winning winery restaurants.
  • In the summer season, you can take a twilight cruise over in the Marlborough Sounds enjoying local wines served with fresh seafood. In Queen Charlotte Sound, enjoy the Seafood Oddessy from Picton or the Greenshell Mussel Cruise with Marlborough Tour Company.
  • From Havelock board For the ultimate indulgence take a Marlborough Heli Wine and Dine Tour of the region.
  • Join Michelin star practiced chefs at Herzog, for the ultimate “behind the scenes” experience to observe how they run their kitchen in preparation for the evening service. Then head out to the restaurant for some serious pampering.
  • Visit the Makana Confections chocolate factory on Rapaura Road and watch the confectionery masters at work.
