ORO MĀIA blends live music and poetry all performed by powerful wāhine. The name ORO MĀIA translates as ‘Still I Rise’. It pays tribute to poet, essayist, and civil rights activist Dr Maya Angelou. The performers use spoken word, song, and live music to bring her works to the stage. Expect powerful performances by artists Maisey Rika, Miriama McDowell, Erena Koopu, Tuakoi Ōhia, and Maarire Brunning-Kouka.
We are giving away a double pass to ORO MĀIA at the Wellington Jazz Festival. The competition closes at 10am on Friday 11 October. Winner must be able to attend the performance at The Opera House at 8pm on Saturday 19 October.
