Key dates

Throughout the month of August, more than 100 boundary-pushing Visa Wellington On A plate (VWOAP) events will takeover some of the best restaurants, venues and eateries in the city.

The first two weeks of the Festival are dedicated to Dine Wellington - a chance for local restaurants to hero regional ingredients and showcase their own unique Festival Dishes. Then it's time for Burger Wellington - a huge two-week celebration of the humble burger an opportunity for eateries to get creative between two buns.

Festival Highlights

From one-off pop-ups to master classes with international chefs, family events, experimental tastings, film, music and restaurant takeovers, VWOAP 2019 offers something for all tastes and all ages. Here’s just a small sample of the delicious events that'll come to life during this year's Festival:

  • Bandersnack at Hillside - a five-course meal where your decisions throughout will alter the dish to follow. An evening of unpredictability that plays with all your senses.

  • Talking Plates at Bellamy's with Eat NZ - Join Clarke Gayford and Scott McNeill from Awatoru Wild Foods for an evening on food sustainability at Bellamy's at The Beehive. Presented by Eat New Zealand.

  • Big Little Farm - New Zealand International Film Festival - Head to Roxy Cinema for the Wellington premiere of The Biggest Little Farm, a documentary about bio-diversity, and feast on matching foods.

  • Souptastic! with Kaibosh - Celebrate International Happiness Happens Day with soup prepared by Shepherd's Shepherd Elliott and ingredients supplied by Kaibosh Food Rescue.
