Archives New Zealand, Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga, is the official guardian of New Zealand's public archives.

Archives New Zealand holds over 96 metres of archives, 552,000 maps and plans, 2.4 million photographs, 29,000 films and video, 5000 audio tapes, 1545 works of art and 5 million records on Archway - the online search engine.

School groups can visit its treasures or use the online resources.

The collections include the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the 1893 Women's Suffrage Petition. Both are on permanent display and listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register.

The Gateway is a place to learn about archives and do research. School groups are welcome on a self-tour basis - but need to book in advance.
