The New Zealand Portrait Gallery shows exhibitions which focus on New Zealanders both famous and everyday individuals as depicted by painters, photographers, sculptors, caricaturists and multimedia artists. It tells the story of New Zealand history through its personalities and by showcasing the individuals who have helped shape us as a nation.

The gallery is a place of discovery centred upon our many identities: who we were and who we are today.

Based in an historic Edwardian building on the Wellington waterfront, close Wellington Museum City and Sea the NZ Portrait Gallery welcomes welcome visits from schools (from pre-schools to university) and education groups including professional development visits for educators.

Please contact the gallery to enquire about current exhibitions and school visits designed to suit your school’s requirements.
