Breathtakingly Beautiful - Wellington's iconic Old St Paul's is one of New Zealand's greatest heritage places and one of the best examples of timber Gothic Revival architecture in the world.
Old St Paul’s is one of the finest examples of 19th century Gothic revival architecture still standing in New Zealand. We first opened our doors to the people of Wellington in 1866 and have been an icon of this city ever since. While we no longer function as a parish church, we are still an essential place to visit as a fine example of local history and colonial craftsmanship. In this place, intricately carved native timber intermingles with multi-coloured stained glass windows creating a unique and stimulating learning environment.
"Experience Old St Paul’s” is an education programme exploring the landscape, heritage and significance of this national landmark and its historic setting. A wide range of ‘Education outside the Classroom’ (EOTC) experiences are provided by Old St Paul’s through four on-site interactive activities. Students will experience fun hands-on small group activities involving team work, problem solving and inquiry learning. A supplementary Teachers resource is available. Please click on “Send Enquiry” for further details and bookings.
Closed Christmas Day, Good Friday and for short periods during private functions, and special ceremonies.
