Te Papa's unique and beautiful contemporary marae belongs to all New Zealanders.
Te Papa’s unique and beautiful contemporary marae, Rongomaraeroa, belongs to all New Zealanders. It offers experiences that foster new levels of understanding about who we are as a nation. The marae is a key element in several of Te Papa’s school programmes. Find out more about the Marae
Book your class in for a guided education programme with Te Papa’s museum educators. Learn about how a pōwhiri happens and why it is unique to Aotearoa. Experience a pōwhiri (welcoming ceremony) and gain an understanding of when, where, and how pōwhiri can be applied.
Self-guided visits to the marae are also welcomed. It is accessible during Te Papa’s opening hours, 10am – 6pm daily, and until 9pm on Thursdays.
To find out more about the education programmes or the marae specifically, contact Te Papa’s Education Co-ordinator.
