From lighting and lamps to sculptural robots, this store has variety that will intrigue anyone that visits.
Strathmore residents Michelle Fyson and Nick Blake opened their Whirlwind Design Store next to the Roxy in early July.
For the past three years their store was in the old air force base in Shelly Bay. They collaborate to design and make a wide range of products in the Shelly Bay workshop they have retained. With backgrounds in theatre, film and interior design, many of their designs feature discarded materials assembled into new creations, that are at once quirky, sustainable and work well in contemporary design settings.
The Miramar Peninsula is a strong source of inspiration (not to mention materials) used in their ranges of cushions, lamps, wind sculptures and jewellery. They also stock a unique range of craft supplies for makers, and interesting collections of home wares sourced on their travels.
Their aim is to provide a range of unique well designed gifts at a wide range of price points. Michelle and Nick particularly enjoy engaging with their customers and making one off commissions when requested.
