Built in 1876 by John Golder (1849-1902), Golder Cottage is one of the earliest pioneer homes in Upper Hutt.
It is an historically rich site with a fascinating collection of memorabilia. The rooms are furnished virtually as they were when John, Jane and their twelve children lived in the cottage providing a fascinating, extensive and authentic collection.
The cottage takes visitors back in time and shows how a family would have lived during Victorian times in a faithfully preserved original setting. Managed by a voluntary committee, the museum is a life-sized exhibition which transports visitors to a past era.
It is both an indoor and outdoor experience with original trees and landscaping features.
