Visit Kapiti Island, New Zealand's internationally renowned nature reserve and bird sanctuary and discover some of the world's rarest birds in a wild and natural environment.
Visit Kapiti Island on a day trip with Kapiti Explorer and Marine Charter and discover one of New Zealand’s oldest and most treasured nature reserves, located just 15 minutes from Paraparaumu Beach and 60 minutes from downtown Wellington.
Travel in our purpose built 11m jet boat with a passenger capacity of 31 people all seated in an enclosed cabin. We offer dry feet boarding and disembarking on the mainland and on the island. Our skipper has over 20 years’ experience in the Kapiti waters and all our guides are Kapiti locals with many years guiding experience.
Our day trip lands at Rangatira Point in the middle of the island, that has stunning bush, access to the trig at the highest point on the island and where you have the best chance of seeing the rare and endangered bush birds that live on the island, including the Saddleback, Hihi, Takahe and many more of our threatened bird species.
We also offer tours around the Kapiti mainland with a bush and estuary bird and historical walk. Explore an ancient forest just 15 minutes from the Paraparaumu town centre, walk among giant trees, magical ferns and a stunning canopy forest. This is a half day walk of an easy grade.
You might also like to explore the Waikanae Estuary, a nationally recognised wildlife habitat. See many of the birds who reside in the Estuary and enjoy magnificent views out to Kapiti Island and inland to the Tararua Range. This is a half day walk of an easy grade.
