Marama Whenua is a multi-disciplinary, environmental education program.
Environmental Education field trips for 8-12 year olds. Their focuses include Manawa Karioi, a 30 acre reforestation project, the marae buildings and gardens, mythology and music.
Field trips can include propagation of native plants, forest ecology, revegetation techniques, organic gardening and some aspects of Rongoa (Maori remedies).
Through visual art, music and stories, they explore people's relationships with the environment.
Students will experience unique artworks, indigenous musical instruments and stories with environmental themes. They discuss sustainability and changes human impacts have made on the natural world. All modules are linked to the Arts and Science curriculum.
